Glossary of Slot Terms
If you don't understand some of the terms and gambling lingo used here on the site, then you in the right place. You don't need to be a genius to understand what they mean and the glossary below should help:
- Bankroll
- A players bankroll is the total value of money that a gamer has set aside for a period of gambling. This is used to provide a limit and be a conscious gamer. A bankroll limit will also help keep in-check the player's betting size.
- Bet
- The amount of money a player wagers is called the bet
- Bonus
- The cash amount that a player will get upon using a bonus code or picking up a bonus in a promotion.
- Bonus Balance
- The total playable balance a gamer can play from in the casino is split between the bonus balance and the cash balance. The bonus balance houses bonus credits but cannot be withdrawn until they have been converted to the cash balance after meeting the bonus requirements.
- Bonus Feature or Bonus Round
- A bonus feature of bonus round is when you spin the slot machine and a certain combination comes up that give you extra free spins. This is called the bonus feature and runs automatically. These bonus features will at times offer different prizes such as cash, free spins or a combination of both. Once you reach a bonus round, you no longer risk your money.
- Cash Balance
- The cash balance is the balance in player's account that they can withdraw. It consists of any deposited / won funds and any converted bonus cash.
- Cashier
- Is the section in the casino that deals with all forms of real-money transactions such as deposits or withdrawals.
- Coin Size or Coin Value
- Online slots typical use a coins system rather than preset money amounts for each spin. Players can then choose the value of coins they want to play before each spin. This means you can choose the amount of money you wish to wager and also how much you can win.
- Coins per Spin or Coins per Line
- Typically online slots machines have on the amount of coins that can be played per line. The more coins on a line will mean the more your wagering and the more you can win.
- Combination
- A combination is the sequence of icons displayed across the pay line. Different combinations will have different winnings. Check the pay table of the game you're playing for exact details
- Games History
- The section of the casino that documents your full detailed history of games.
- Hit
- A slang term for winning
- Icons
- Another term for symbols on the pay line. Icons will vary in appearance, frequency and value at different slot machines.
- Jackpot or J.P
- The largest possible payout from a single spin. Is usually an accumulated figure over time and once paid out, starts building up again as players play.
- Lobby
- The first screen you see once you open the casino application.
- Max Bet
- The max bet is the largest amount of coins you can place on a single spin. To wager any larger amounts you must change the value of the coins you are betting. A max bet is usually the only wager that can win you the biggest prizes such as jackpots.
- Multiplier
- Simply put multipliers are a way to multiply your winnings! Multipliers are usually triggered through icons or combinations that make your prize bigger than they would regularly be.
- Multi-line Slot
- A slot machine that has more than one pay line. You can still choose to play only one line, but playing more increases your chances of wining
- Payline(s)
- A pay line is the line on which the symbols must fall in a winning combination in order to win. Lines can go straight, zig zag or diagonally across the screen. The more pay lines, the more opportunities there are to create a winning combination however the more costly it will be too
- Paytable
- The Paytable of a slot machine details all the possible winning combinations and how much you could win. This allows a gamer to know what are the most valuable available in the game.
- Payout
- The winnings a player receives after a winning combination of symbols has hit on a payline.
- Playthrough Requirement/Target
- This refers to a bonus in that each bonus has play through requirements to clear off the bonus cash. You can't simply deposit and then withdraw any bonus cash - it would leave us dead broke. So in order for you to get bonus cash you must play with it in the casino for a set period or amount of wagers.
- Random Number Generator
- Commonly referred to as a RNG, it is the is the core of the casino and is responsible for returning completely random outcomes for the slot machines. A message is sent to the RNG over the internet each time a gamer makes a bet/wager and it is third-party certified RNG.
- Reels
- Reels are the vertical reels or columns that display the symbols in the slot machine. Every spin, will rotate the reels and the stop them to land the icons upon the payline(s). The majority of slot machines will use either 3 or 5 reels.
- Scatter Symbol
- The scatter symbol is an icon that mostly features in 5 reel video slots. Contrary to the trend of making icons sequentially feature across a set payline to grant you winnings scatter symbols only have to appear after a spin ANYWHERE to grant you a win!
- Symbols
- Another term for icons on the pay line. Icons will vary in appearance, frequency and value at different slot machines.
- Video Slot
- A term used to denote online slots that have a more modern nature; usually slots jam-packed with features and that use more detailed contemporary devices such as animations.
- Wager
- The money that a player bets is called the wager.
